Font or Typeface

I get confused with this sometimes.  The comparison to an mp3 vs the song really helped me understand when to use font and when to use typeface.

“font is what you use, and typeface is what you see.”

New Design, New Domain

Once again, I redesigned my site.  However, not only did I redesign it, I also moved it to my new domain name.  My old domain, JoeyValenti.com now redirects to my shiny new site, JoeValenti.net.  The reason for the domain change is due to the fact that I’m now trying to go by Joe and not Joey.  I’m doing this for business reasons… Joey sounds like a little boy.  Whenever I would tell people that my name was Joey, many people would ask my why I “still went by Joey”.  So I finally caved in and am all in with the name Joe.

The site redesign is fairly simple.  I wanted to move to an even for minimal design than the previous design.  I’m also back using Helvetica Neue for most of the body text.  On my old site, one thing I always hated was the footer.  So with this design I got rid of the footer altogether.  One thing I did like about the footer however, was that I pulled in my latest pictures from Instagram.  I’m a big fan of Instagram so I really like the idea of integrating it into my site somehow.  So I decided to make a whole page that pulls in my latest 20 pictures from the service.

The new design is in no way finished.  It has a long way to go before I will be satisfied.  The next big thing I need to do it make it responsive.  The site has some fixed position elements and iOS really hates that.  I also need to do a lot of work on my portfolio page.  Thanks for reading.

4in iPhone Rumors

I keep seeing pretty much this same rumor all over the place.  I would love a larger iPhone so I really hope this one is true.  Now that Reuters and The Wall Street Journal have both said the same thing, I think this rumor is true.  However, as they say on local TV news… only time will tell.

My nephew Asher Bradrick, is growing up so fast!  I’m grooming him to be a Red Sox fan!

Broken Hearts

Fantastic post by Vlad Savov on some of the problems with Samsung and their latest smartphone release.  I was really surprised by the Galaxy S III… I had come to expect more from Samsung.  The quote below is from the linked post.

“From fridges to cameras to TVs, people buy Samsung gear not because they love or trust it, but because its spec sheet ticks the right boxes. The brand is synonymous with ubiquity, but not quality.”

This would be awesome.  I would not be surprised if Apple implements something like this in iOS 6.

Dropbox SDK iOS Apps Rejected

I hate when Apple does stuff like this.  I like what one of the commenters said…

“We have a raft of rejections over patently silly hypotheticals. Meanwhile, there was never any chance that existing companies like Amazon were going to give Apple a slice of their revenue stream just because they wanted an app on a phone.  So this is a bad policy and Apple should be blasted for it, because it’s a stupid policy, not because it’s an evil policy.”

Spotify for iPad Review

Nice review as always from The Verge.  The video stuff these guys do is really great.

Wordfence

A great new WordPress security plugin.  I deployed this on many of the sites I manage.  (via)

DribbbleBoard

Yet another great way to browse Dribbble.  People are really doing some cool stuff with the Dribbble API.

Fribbble

Many dribbbler’s will share free downloads over on Dribbble.  Fribbble is a great little site that curates all those free downloads.  The site is run by Gilbert Pellegrom who is the creator of the well known jQuery slider called Nivo Slider.

My dad just recently started building another spec home. Panorama taken with AutoStich for iPhone.
